Founded in 2015, MajorDecibel came to life as an ambitious personal project dedicated to building a high performance mastering engine from scratch and making it available to independent artists around the world. After nearly a year of development on evenings and weekends, a custom mastering engine was coded and launched online under MajorDecibel, a brand first conceived with big dreams years earlier. This service grew out of passion for music and technology and it is from that foundation that we continue to improve and evolve today.

From 2016 to 2017 MajorDecibel was a completely free service, developed and maintained through voluntary efforts, and funded out-of-pocket and with some very helpful donations from independent artists. After mastering more than 100,000 tracks and over 400 tracks per day our user base grew significantly faster than we were prepared to handle. We have since transitioned to a limited free/low cost paid hybrid service model. This transition has allowed us to upgrade our services at a sustainable pace while maintaining an affordable, low cost pricing model for our customers.

Instant online mastering is a powerful new industry that benefits artists and musicians around the world. Coming from an algorithmic audio and software background and with a lifelong love of music this new approach to mastering music represented the perfect blend of my own interests. The industry has grown into a composite landscape of talent around the world including other well-recognized instant mastering providers, each with their own unique sound. We are proud to be a small part of it, providing more choice to artists around the world.

One thing you may have noticed is that we keep a low profile. That is, we don't do a lot of advertising or seek out public exposure. Such traditional business methodologies have really taken a back seat to long hours of listening, experimentation, development, and refinement. We rely on word of mouth from artists like you to produce steady, organic growth.

This project has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and it is one that would not be possible without the many artists past and present who continue to provide feedback and encouragement; what we're doing right, and what we could do better.
